Overview
The devastating effects of the invasion of Ukraine continues. This independent nation has chosen democracy again and again, and is not ready to surrender. I am so moved by their courage to stand against this aggression, that I had to make this poster. Ukraine identifies with the tall sunflower, growing in fields, linking together. The sunflowers in my design stand tall and proud, their faces turned toward the light, much like the Ukrainian people's unwavering gaze toward freedom. The bees represent the international community, moving between the flowers, showing how freedom and democracy are interconnected - when we defend it in one place, we strengthen it everywhere. I chose a style reminiscent of wartime solidarity posters, but with a gentle strength that speaks to the dignity of Ukraine's resistance. The typography, bold yet refined, carries the weight of the message while maintaining hope. "Their Freedom Guards Ours" speaks to the profound truth that democracy anywhere protects democracy everywhere. Like the sunflowers that return each year to face the sun, Ukraine's resolve remains unbroken. This piece honors that spirit and reminds us that we all have a stake in supporting their defense of freedom.
